Senior Geophysicist Organisational Environment: The department is responsible for policies and processes to facilitate exploration and development and delivers services to protect the health and safety of people involved in Queensland's mining, quarrying, petroleum, gas and explosives industries, a sector that contributes over $16 billion to Queensland s Gross State Product A The Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) carries out geological mapping and basin analysis, develops structural and tectonic models, maintains and updates geoscience and resources databases, promotes the mineral and energy prospectivity of the State, and is responsible for an extensive collection of geoscience data and information A The Geoscience Information Management (GIM) group within GSQ is responsible for developing and implementing frameworks and systems for storing, managing, delivering and disseminating the geoscientific data and information collected, compiled, and interpreted by GSQ groups and the exploration industry A In particular, GIM has responsibility for providing geophysical data related management, software and interpretation services for GSQ and for managing the geophysical data acquisition programs for DME GSQ has substantial airborne geophysical, gravity and seismic data acquisition programs underway as part of the $20 million Smart Exploration and $29 08 million Smart Mining Future Prosperity programs A Purpose of Position This position is responsible for the planning and implementation of geophysical data acquisition programs, the management of the GSQ s extensive regional and exploration company geophysical data collection and the implementation of geophysical data delivery strategies and products A Reporting Relationships This position reports directly to the Geoscience Manager, GIM A Duties Plan in consultation with the Senior Geophysicist Interpretation, and coordinate the GSQ s geophysical data acquisition programs by collaborating and liaising with GSQ management, the exploration industry, State and Commonwealth Government agencies, landholders and contractors as required, in order to: Plan survey extents and specifications and prepare project plans Prepare all departmental briefs, associated documentation and quotation requests Approve recommendations to engage contractors Oversee of multi-disciplinary project teams Develop and implement processes, standards and solutions to manage and maintain the GSQ s geophysical data collection and update and maintain the associated metadata records collection Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, exploration reporting requirements and standards, and mineral and petroleum geophysical exploration techniques, to ensure geophysical data resources are managed appropriately Ensure that the GSQ s regional geophysical data collection is maintained on the Geophysical Data Delivery System (GADDS); and monitor statistics and clients satisfaction for reporting to GSQ management Research the company report collection Queensland Digital Exploration Reports System (QDEX) to identify geophysical survey data for incorporation into the GSQ s exploration company data collection Ensure the open file data is made available to the exploration industry Undertake the processing, analysis and interpretation of a range of geophysical data acquired by the Department or exploration companies, using industry standard software applications Research and implement geophysical data interpretation techniques and standards to underpin GSQ mapping projects and the development of interpretation products for the exploration industry Develop digital and hard copy geophysical data products, managing the distribution of these to the exploration and mining industries and other client groups Review web based data delivery systems to identify better technologies for the delivery of GSQ s open file and regional geophysical data Implement work practices and standards for the use of geophysical data within GSQ mapping projects;
